"The Games of Ma Jong" ist das Ergebnis eines Kneipenversprechens im Winter 2014 zwischen den Darstellern Marija Jancic und Ronald Uecker mit dem Autor und Regisseur Volker Lüdecke.
Zu fortgeschrittener Stunde und unter erheblichem Alkoholeinfluss gab man sich das gegenseitige Versprechen, auch ohne die finanzielle Förderung vom Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, die man vergeblich für das Low Budget Filmprojekt "The Making of Off Theater in Berlin" beantragt hatte (es gibt ja GmbHs, die das Geld dringender brauchen), sich nicht unterkriegen zu lassen und doch wenigstens einen außergewöhnlichen No Budget Film zu drehen.
Stephan Kostropetsch, der dritte im Bunde und einer der Hauptdarsteller des vorangegangenen Theater- und Filmprojekts "Darja" im Theater unterm Turm, war an diesem Abend zufällig nicht anwesend und erfuhr erst später von seinem Glück, bald in der eisigen Kälte des Winters 2014 drehen zu dürfen.
Die Canon 550d DSLR Kamera war in Gefahr bei den eisigen Temperaturen an den Drehorten, aber die "Baby 7d" hielt durch.
Einmal mit den Dreharbeiten begonnen, machten alle ohne schlechte Laune weiter, bis "The Games of Ma Jong" nach acht Drehtagen schließlich abgedreht war.

Eine riesige Chance für jede Filmproduktion, die mit einem abendfüllenden Referenzfilmprojekt auf sich aufmerksam machen will.
Sobald die 1. Episode auf einem Filmfestival gezeigt wird, dürfte es für einen Einstieg zu spät sein. Dann sind 30 Minuten außergewöhnlicher Film nur noch einer unter vielen, denn die Inflation der digitalen Kurzfilmeinreichungen zeigt sich ja vor allem bei den Festivals, die seit Neuestem tausende statt hunderte Shortmovies eingereicht bekommen.
Da hilft nur noch eines: das Filmerlebnis muss abendfüllend sein, denn ein Spielfilm lässt sich dann eben doch nicht mal spontan mit der Handykamera drehen.
